You might say that the Boeing 787 is one of the most "technologically advanced airplanes" in the world. This might be true, but at Hainan Airlines, this comes at a cost for the passenger's comfort.
First of all, the Boeing states that its 787-8 has "more humid air" than a regular airplane. Then, why did I get a bloody nose that I would be able to stop on a regular airplane than on a Boeing 787? The air on the airplane was basically the driest I've ever experienced!
Also, those windows that they said could improve the experience were useless in the way that the flight attendants or pilots controlled it. They locked it in the lowest position for over half of the flight! I couldn't even see the beautiful landscape underneath us as we passed the arctic mountains!
What those overhead bins? The flight attendant had to stand on her tip toes to reach it and she almost fell! The good part though, is that I can stand up and stretch up my arms without hitting the ceilings.
The aisles were so narrow that no two people could cross at the same time in different directions, which I suspect is to fit the extra seat in every row. DON'T DO IT, HAINAN AIRLINES!
The seat too was horrible to think of. 14 hours on a seat less than 17 inches and you'll know what I mean. With barely anything to do with a bad entertainment and windows that are blue, really, you can only sleep.
The entertainment system was pretty useless. Movies would have half a dozen of ads with only 20 choices. The games are filled with bugs. For example, if you won it'd display the win on the other player's profile. Only 4 movies for kids also and the flight location system(the flight map) didn't start working till' we came into Russian territory.
The food was normal airplane food. One surprise though, the flight attendants offered a HOT towel! Menus were also offered during the flight with 2 meals and around 6 choices total. Sandwiches were also offered during the middle of the flight or around the 7 hour mark. Food was okay, NORMAL.
Flight attendants had some pretty poor communication with the passengers. Neither of the flight attendants could speak English fluently, so that left some people (american) confused. They were pretty nice though, which makes up for that. Unlike American carriers who fly to China and usually have one crew member which is the other nationality, the pilot was also not american and gave us some false information about the Boeing 787-8.
He said this at one point in Chinese: "Welcome aboard the Boeing 787! This is the world's newest airplane with the most advanced features of any airplane flying!"
Well, the A350 is probably newer and the Bombardier CSeries is MUCH younger! And... How do you measure how advanced an airplane is? I think that MILITARY aircraft are far more advanced than the Boeing 787.
A snack bar was in the back of the airplane. It contained some snacks(2 choices) and some amenities, like eye shades, earplugs, earbuds, and toothbrushes, which was very good. There was also a couple of beverages one could choose from, which I really liked. This was far greater than airlines like American.
The seats which recline forward have been stated to "give more space," which I disagree. As the seat reclines, your knees are crushed against the seat in front of you.
Well, I haven't really talked about the flight.
